Joyce is currently a Honorable Member of the Leadership Code Tribunal. She is a CEO Emeritus of
Uganda Law Society. She is a motivational speaker and transformational leader who has mentored
and impacted many lives of young Lawyers.

Joyce is enrolled Advocate and Commissioner for Oaths. She holds a Master’s in Public Administration and Management [2019], a Master’s Degree in Law Oil and Gas [2018], an Honors Degree in Law of Makerere University, Kampala [1999] as well as a Diploma in Legal Practice of LDC [2000].

Joyce is now a PHD candidate specializing in Gender Justice for Refugees.

Other qualifications include being a Certified /Advanced Mediator, a Leadership trainee qualified under female Future Program of the Federation of Uganda Employers [FUE] 2019. Joyce is a member of several professional bodies like the Uganda Law Society, East African Law Society, Uganda Christian Lawyers’ Fraternity and FIDA[U] a women lawyers’ Association.

Joyce has a professional experience spanning over 20 years, in private business law practice, litigation and court matters, corporate governance consulting in legal and regulatory reform, policy research, advocacy and private sector training.

Joyce has vast adjudication experience coupled with mediation acquired during her role as a Member of the Law Council Disciplinary Committee (2018 -2020).

She has governance experience gained over the last 20 years, having Served on a number of Boards
including the National Coalition of Human Rights Defenders [NCHRDs], Chairperson, Board of Directors-Victory Senior Secondary School, Chairperson Board-Zebra Roofing Ltd, Vice Chairperson, Institute of Justice and Social Transformation.

She has conducted institutional and organizational reviews of public and private sector institutions in the region. She is also a former chairperson, Pro bono Board of Trustees- Law Council 2018 – 2020), a former ULS Representative to the Law Council (2018 – 2020) as well as a former Member of the Disciplinary committee of the Law Council (2018 – 2020). She is formerly a Managing partner of law Chambers M/S Nalunga -Birimumaaso & co. Advocates since February 2000. She is formerly the Head Litigation of M/S Public Defenders Association (U) and for several years shared Knowledge with law students as an Associate Lecturer, Law Development Center Kampala.

Joyce has also spearheaded the publication of Several ULS publications including the Annual Law report 2018, Annual Legal Aid Report 2018, Rule of law Quarterly reports 2018 & 2019, ULS Newsletters 2018 & 2019 as well as several ULS Press statements 2018 & 2019.

Joyce is a community centric person and is part of various community initiatives in her home area Namere, Mpererwe in Kawempe Division, Kampala District.

She is a family person, married to Joseph Birimumaaso and has nine Children, four biological and five adopted.
